“What shall we do with you?” The Queen’s question hangs in the air, reminding you of all you have lost in such a short time. Yesterday you would have given your right arm to move out of the little flat you share with skittering rodents and a semi-feral kitty named Dinah who delights in clawing you when you sleep, but right now, you’d give your soul to be back inside the familiar confines of those slowly mildewing four walls.
“Please Ma’am, your Majesty, I just want to go home,” you whimper pitifully
Queen Rael and Constance exchange looks. “And where is home?” Rael asks.
“420 Baker Street, Candlewick Lane, 90805,” you inform her meekly.
The resulting stares from both the Queen and her Officer are blanker than the blankest of blank things. “In America,” you add helpfully.
“Amurka?” Rael shakes her head. “I have not heard of such a place in all my travels.”
“Neither have I,” Constance agrees.
“Everyone knows where America is!” you protest. “It’s where Twinkies and McDonalds and fat free cheese come from!”
“Cheese? Well I’ve heard of cheese at least,” Constance says, seemingly pleased that something has, at long last, made some form of sense.
“We shall start with the common ground of cheese and go on from there,” Rael says encouragingly as your face falls.
“In the meantime, there is still the matter of breaking, entering, and drape chewing,” Constance reminds the queen. “An offense was committed, a serious one.”
“I don’t remember it!” There are tears in your eyes as you protest.
“Perhaps she has been the victim of some cruel prank,” Rael murmurs thoughtfully.
“A pointless prank, if it is one at all,” Constance says frowning in disapproval at the idea of a prank being performed anywhere within a twenty mile radius.
You’re engaged in the act of very seriously staring around in a bewildered sort of fashion when a sudden banging at the chamber doors makes you jump.
“Where is she?” Kai strides into the room, snarling like something feral.
“Kai – out. We are attending to other matters,” Constance barks at the smaller woman.
“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me where Lucy is,” Kai growls.
You’re shocked at how much her demeanor has changed from when you last saw her. Gone are the carefree attitude and the casual acrobatics. In their place remains only pure fury.
“You. Who the hell are you?” Kai turns her attention to you, picking you out as a suspicious newcomer and potential weak link. She advances with an expression of menace.
