Once robber and thief had been wrangled down from the roof and into the inn, things quickly became interesting. Kira was clearly still interested in punitive action, but she’d given her word it would not occur. She stood with her back to the fireplace, her arms folded across her chest, her expression watchful and grim. Atrocious and Rogette sat very close together at a little table, smiling and whispering all sorts of little secrets and jokes to one another, which only served to make Kira glower all the more.
“How long are we planning on staying here?” The warrior’s impatience got the better of her yet again as she turned to her magical friend.
“A week or so,” Ayla said calmly. She had lit the fireplace and was boiling a travel sized cauldron atop the flames. A scattering of various dried herbs was laid out around her and she seemed quite absorbed in her work, though she had not stated precisely what her work was. A few strands of her pale hair had worked their way loose and floated about her face, making her look ethereal and somehow dainty.
“It’s good you’re staying,” Rogette said to Atrocious. “I can show you a few things.”
“You can show me how you climb the way you do,” Atrocious said admiringly. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“It’s easy, you just need some practice,” Rogette said. “Come on, I’ll show you in the forest.” The two young women scraped their stools back and made for the door, but were stopped by Kira’s voice.
“No.” Kira said firmly. “Atrocious isn’t going anywhere.”
Feeling sure of herself and being backed up by Rogette, Atrocious sneered boldly. “You can’t tell me what to do.”
Kira raised a dark brow. “Want to bet?”
“Relax…” Rogette fumbled for a name, “…lady,” she eventually said. “We’re just going to play around a little.”
“Her name is Kira, and you don’t have to answer to her either,” Atrocious said, tugging Rogette by her arm. “Come on, let’s go.” She took a couple of steps towards the door before she realized that Rogette wasn’t with her.
The robber was gawping at Kira, her mouth hinged open. “You’re Kira? The Kira who killed ninety-nine men in a single battle with nothing more than a dagger and a farmer’s scythe? The Kira who vanquished the Blue Baron? The Kira who the bards sing of?”
Ayla looked up from the fire. “She is Kira. The one and only.”
“Wow,” Rogette breathed. “I thought you’d be…”
“Taller? Scarier? Meaner?” Kira suggested a few words in a bored tone.
“Younger,” Rogette finished her sentence.
Ayla and Atrocious burst into laughter even as a low growl rose in Kira’s throat. “I let you off once, I will not do so again,” the warrior warned Rogette.
“I’m just saying I thought you wouldn’t be so old,” Rogette shrugged. “Nothing wrong with that, is there?”
Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Kira cocked her head to the side. “I suppose everyone looks old when you’re still a milk drinker on your mother’s teat.”
“Hey, I am not!” Rogette stamped her foot, rather undermining her attempt to appear mature.
Triumph gleamed in the warrior’s eyes. “Of course you are. Why don’t you run along home before you get into trouble, little girl.”
“Shows what you know,” Rogette said snippily. “I don’t have a home, so there!”
“You don’t have a home?” Atrocious butted in curiously.
“My home is wherever I is. Am,” Rogette declared proudly.
“Wow, that’s so…”
“Stupid,” Kira interjected. “A little wench like you should not be sleeping rough.”
“I can take care of myself.” Rogette lifted her chin as she made the proud declaration.
“Is that so? What would you do if a bandit tried to attack you?”
“I’d smite them down,” Rogette boasted. “I have smited at least ten bandits before.”
The words were barely out of the robber’s pretty mouth before the room burst into activity and squealing. Kira, who had been standing a good five feet away from the robber, suddenly wasn’t there anymore. Instead she was holding Rogette with one arm twisted up behind the robber’s back. Kira’s other hand was at Rogette’s throat in a fist, her thumb extended across the robber’s jugular vein in a way a knife might be. “Is this how you’d protect yourself?” Kira breathed against Rogette’s ear.
The robber shivered visibly in the warrior’s grip. She looked so much smaller, so much more delicate, so entirely helpless in Kira’s grasp. “Let me go,” she squeaked.
“No,” Kira dropped the thumb and wrapped her right arm around Rogette’s waist instead. “You are a rude, boastful, silly little girl who is going to get herself hurt.”
Atrocious watched wide eyed as Kira propped her leg up on one of the stools they’d recently vacated and tossed the robber over her thigh as if she weighed nothing at all. For all Rogette’s acrobatic talent, there was no getting away from the determined warrior as she raised her hand and brought it down hard across Rogette’s cloth pants. The robber squealed like a little stuck piggy and Kira repeated the treatment, a satisfied expression on her face.
“You! Will! Not! Be! So! Dis! Res! Pect! Ful!” She smacked Rogette’s curvy bottom hard at every syllable.
“Stop it! Stop it!” Rogette squealed over and over.
“What’s the matter, little girl? I thought you like being spanked?” Kira reached down and slipped one of Rogette’s leather soled shoes off her feet. “Let’s see how well you like this.”
The flexible leather sole made a soft swish as it sped through the air, but a very loud CRACK when it contacted Rogette’s bottom. Rogette arched and howled when it landed, clearly not at all accustomed to being spanked in spite of her earlier boasting. She started wriggling and squirming frantically, but Kira had no trouble locking her in place with a strong arm as she belabored the brat’s bottom with her own shoe sole.
Rogette was soon squealing and crying out plaintively, but the next major objection did not come from her. Atrocious, quite incensed at what she was seeing, ran up and booted Kira in the shin as hard as she could. The pain was enough of a shock to make Kira loosen her grip on the robber and Rogette tipped forward off her thigh. A lesser girl might have fallen head-first onto the stone floor, but Rogette’s training kicked in and she simply rolled up and onto her feet. She wasted no time in speeding outside, fleeing as fast as her toned legs would take her.
Atrocious was left with a hopping mad Kira who advanced on her, limping ever so slightly, her eyes burning with the need for retribution. “You’re going to regret that.”

I waited and waited , as always ,bit was awesome
@ Bahamasgirl Ah you see, your waiting was rewarded
Patience is a virtue after all.
Be quick, Atrocious! Forget the shoe and hightail it after the sparkly, brightly colored, fleeing dirvish before Kira loses the limp, the ethereal Ayla quits stirring her pot of herbs, and you end up….end up!
Something tells me Ayla wouldn’t plan on hanging out for a couple of weeks without doing something to protect the perimeter and secure her ‘assets’.
The plot thickens, as the mischievious bard prepares to flee and leaves us hanging off this cliff with baited breath and tightened sphincters!
@Sparrow you really do have quite the way with words, you know that? When are we going to see some literary offerings from you, hmmm?
Wow. Kira is going to whip all of the girls. I’m surprised Ayla isn’t more involved in these whippings. I wonder what she has in mind. Does Kira whip Ayla? What is the history between these two women? How will Kira take being mocked by a little thief?
Thanks — I’m enjoying this series.
Huh
@Huh Chuh Perhaps Ayla has better things to do than exert authority over relatively harmless hijinks. Who knows? Your questions are all good ones as always, all I can tell you is that we will have to wait and see
I got the impression that Ayla whips Kira. Or used to and still could. You know, sometimes quality matters more than quantity. A few whippings over serious matters might be of more importance than lots of whippings over simple brattery.
Not that Kira should stop being spank-happy. Every top has its unique style and that’s cool.
Just seems Ayla has more of a witchy spiritual elfy strenght, and Kira is more physical. Ninety men? I guess the invisibiliy thing helps, but I’m betting it’s a power that Ayla gave to her back when she was mentoring her.
On the brat front, Roguette and Atrocious are awfullly cute together. I’m shipping everyone with everyone. My doubt is with the names of those couples… You know: Ayra? Aykira? Kayla? Rotrocious? Aroguette?
Oh insomnia how crazier you make me!
